[Current Mood | pissed off]

I just watched the late night journal. One item was about Salim Hamdan who was founded guilty of 'supporting terrorism'. It was done in the special 'camp justice' in the Guantanamo Bay prison. Neither the public nor the defence saw much of the proof. There's more to the story but not much what matters in my point. The BBC has an article on it as well if you want to read up on it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7545484.stm

Now I don't really care about Salim, but to sum it up it means:

"An Afghan is convicted by an American (military) jury in an American (military) court of law of an American crime in Cuba by America using classified proof."

So America is now the world's police, prosecutor and judge. Also it's impossible to check their judgement! Great! Oceania is well on it's way of being formed. The Party acquired the legal system! I wonder how far Eurasia and Eastasia are from this.

And now? There's the big problem. I'm being pissed off, scribble something here on the net, go to bed, sleep, and tomorrow I'll be back doing my daily things; not acting on this any more. And with me probably the rest of the world will join in not giving a shit.

Where's the real problem? The fact this happens? or the fact we care more about Madonna's latest single?

What will happen next?

Hellboy 2 - In Norn Iron? [Aug. 6th, 2008|11:33 am]

_graywolf_
Well, it certainly was a 'experience' to see Hellboy2 in the Belfast cinema last night. Gareth and I went there along with his sister and her boyfriend as a night out.

I was pleasantly surprised by the into. What's this? Famous people in Celtic Myth doing different things left, right and center? Balor the 'magnificent' and Nuada the 'maleficent'? The pleasant surprise came when you just heard this fog of rumor setting in over the people as many where almost displaying visual question marks above their heads. Many people knew bits of the myths, and many where now in a state of proper confusion as to what was going on with their 'change of behaviour'.

After the shock had settled down, the whole crowd seemed to take the whole movie with a grain of salt. Nuada and his 'helper', a big ugly thing with a metal arm/hand (familiar item of Nuada), received many giggles along the way.

But the hysterical laughter only hit it's height when they went to.... Norn Iron. County Antrim to be exact, the Giant's Causeway. Now, we never see the causeway, but they do seem to be on the causeway coastal route.

And the first and only being they encounter is... a troll.. that barters things.

Ah well, at least they got the accent right.

In all, it was a funny movie. It was slightly iffy to see the myths twisted in such a way, but if you see through that it was enjoyable.

I want a pet tooth-faerie

About morons (aka Pardon my French) )

Anyway now that is of my chest (and cursing does help, at least it makes me feel better) I can get to work (well if I can get the data I need, otherwise it will be a bit senseless to do anything at all)

Well it's getting closer and closer to December, time for me to start packing things and getting things ready for my big move to Canada.

i made a T-Shirt for my friends to recognize me including my City of Villains Supergroup.
This is the Front
and this is on the Back

also i found someone in Ottawa that's interested in me, we've been talking a lot lately and planning things.
One of my pets found me a job, and my other pet is going to teach me french =3, this is gonna be so much fun.
When i was talking about me moving with my pet, he asked me what i would miss here in the Netherlands,
to which i honestly answered him "My friends and Sensation Black" that is ALL i would miss here.
I'm sick and tired of this shithole country, if they think they can treat me like a fucking foreigner I'll just deport myself then, no seance in staying in a country that doesn't support me or my dreams.

In other news thnx to [info]pegla i got a MacBook Pro now, and damn it's a power machine, 17" widescreen, Intel Core2Duo, 2GB of RAM and a ATI X series.
OS dual boot of Mac OSX 5.4 and WinXP Pro (for games i can't play on mac only)

Well thats about it for now, i'm off again, till the next update!

Emain Macha [Aug. 3rd, 2008|07:31 pm]

_graywolf_
Today was our day off, and we wanted to spend it at Emain Macha, but before reaching the ancient capital of Uladh we stopped by Belfast city center for some breakfast. After getting a small bite to eat we were tempted by the sight of Victoria Square. Neither of us had set foot in it yet, mainly because when a store like 'House of Frasier' struggle to pay for the premises you can usually guess the numbers on any price tag there.

We took the lift to the top, to get the view of the Belfast skyline. I was impressed with the height, but the skyline seems to be going no-where. Too many structural styles and buildings, too packed together.. and no real charm to look upon from that high up. On the ground, the tiny alleyways and old buildings are like small treasures to be found in between all the 'new' and 'clean' buildings.

We went on our way, and after 3 attempts in trying to get onto the M1 we finally succeeded. It wasn't long before we hit Lisburn, the infamous town for Gareth. No matter where we are in Ireland, if he gets lost we ALWAYS end up in Lisburn. His face took on a slight 'iffed' expression when the signs read 'Welcome to Lisburn', but I assured him that this time it was the correct road.

The drive was a very pleasant one indeed, and Armagh was soon upon us. The Navan center was easily located after that, and we were surprised to see the amount of people! Or more specifically, lack thereof. It was early, I'll give you that. We went to the front gates of the visitors center, but it seemed to be closed for another couple of minutes or so. Instead of waiting for a grand tour or something similar we just walked to the gates and popped through.

Emain Macha, viewing only the top section

After a short walk, Emain Macha soon dawned upon us. The size of it is a fantastic thing to behold. One can just feel the energy in the area peek up. We walked to the highest point of the area, looked all around us, and then went down and all around. A small niche perked our interested and we proceeded down to a small patch of land. The first thing to greet us was a mare and her foal (nice touch), and to the left was the old Quarry. It's scary to see how close the quarry actually got to the Emain Macha, when luckily people defended it when the quarry wanted to expand. In this glorious aerial view of the place you can actually see how close the quarry got in comparison (bottom left corner).

After visiting the place we decided to head back to the visitors center to see if it had opened in the main time. A gentle drizzle started coming down during our walk back to the place, but luckily we found the doors to be opening by the time we got there.

We joined a small group of people that were going to the re-enactors camp, to listen to some story telling and get an idea of one of the many structures that once graced the place. We had a great time, and although the bard seemed to loose track of the story of how Emain Macha got it's name he did do a good job. (great voice!) I was also charmed by the camán standing next to the entrance.. such a nice touch.

Camán at the entrance

Our last round around the gorgeous visitors center was spend in the exhibition where the replica of the end design of theLoughnashade horn (one of them) charmed me, and has been saved as something I'd like to convert into a pendant some day. The exhibition ended with a video that featured a couple of stories (in high speed!) of the Ulster Cycles.

We left Armagh behind for Belfast again, where I treated Gareth and myself to a dinner at the Crown Liquor Saloon. A delicious roast beef dish was had, which was a perfect ending to a wonderful day out.

Petition to Reinter Bodies [Aug. 2nd, 2008|04:59 pm]

_graywolf_
Tara Campaigners worldwide are supporting a petition to the Irish Government calling on them to re-inter the remains of individuals whose graves have been desecrated by the ongoing construction of the M3 Motorway in the Gabhra Valley near the historic Hill of Tara in Co. Meath. The petition went live on Saturday 19th. July.

Campaigners demand that the ancient remains be reburied in a dignified manner and as closely as possible to the ceremonial layout of the original graveyards. It is estimated that over 60 bodies were disturbed and removed from the Collierstown site and over 27 from Ardsallagh to make way for the double-tolled M3 Motorway. Over the last 15 years of the Celtic Tiger, thousands of bodies have been removed from the earth and stored in warehouses.

The Gabhra Valley is the putative site of the last battle of the Fianna in 284 A.D. and they were said to be buried where they fell along with Cairpre Lifechair king of Tara son of Cormac mac Airt.

The current campaign to have the bodies reburied has been given added impetus by the backing received from the recent World Archaeological Congress held in Dublin who said as part of their press release (July 11th. '08):

"Recognising that the reburial of ancient remains in Ireland is subject to the provisions of the National Monuments Act and the agreement of the National Museum of Ireland, the World Archaeological Congress also draws attention to the Vermillion Accord on human remains and suggests that any human remains excavated from the cultural landscape of Tara should be re-interred with due respect as close as possible to their original locations, as this is where these people would have wished to be buried".

This was the first World Archaeological Congress to be held in Ireland. It was attended by over 1,800 archaeologists, native peoples and international scholars from 74 nations.

The organisers of the petition, Tomás Mac Cormaic and Carmel Diviney said: Carmel Diviney said: "We hope that this petition is the beginning of a debate on the ethics of this archaeological 'resolution' of our ancestors, the indigenous people of Ireland. This debate and respect for our own indigenous people, ourselves, is long overdue and that this puts added pressure on the Irish Govt. to re-inter the bodies".

People are requested to sign the petition here: Tara reburials Petition.

[Current Mood | amused]

It certainly took a while, but finally it has arrived!

Yes, the Rocky and Bullwinkle rpg I was talking about :)
The puppets where not quite what I expected them to look like though ^^;

It primarily are just plastic bags with the cartoon characters printed on them, not all that special or interesting.
In the rules however, it is explained the only reason they are added is because they just felt like adding something extremely silly to all the other stuff they already put in the box.
It's not really neccesary to use them, but they wouldn;t stop you from doing so if you feel like it.
Could say it's more of an added comedy factor.

The game rules are pretty straightforward and simple though, and actually has 3 different ways of playing the game.
Though only 2 really feel like roleplaying, the first is more about telling a story using the cards in your hand.

The other two are interesting however..
In one the "narrator" also plays a character in the story, as well as leading the story.
However, the narrator is not "fixed", and the role is going to shift to another player during play each time certain conditions are met.

BIG box... [Jul. 31st, 2008|11:05 am]

_graywolf_
for Oscar!

This morning Oscar's mail order arrived. 250 Large mice, 50 chicks, and 5 small rats. And... the box was much bigger then expected! It was perfect timing as well, since we ran out of Oscar's food last night.

The previous order fell through because of the GLORIOUS 'grey area' that is Northern Ireland. "Sending to UK postcodes!" and "UK postcodes, including offshore and remote Scottish Isles".. but somehow Northern Ireland doesn't fit any of the bills.

It took some hunting down, but eventually I found Exotic Pets, and found out that a years membership is fairly cheap and gives GIANT discount on large numbers. What can we say? Oscar's food is now settled!

Gareth has slowly been realizing that there is little to no difference between getting this, and getting our own meats from a supermarket. We'll always try our best to know where it came from and how it was treated, and Oscar's 'prey food' is no different.

Shops and moths [Jul. 30th, 2008|12:22 pm]

_graywolf_
Well, today my folks are going home again. It's been great having them here, and we got very far with the workshop indeed. Sadly it isn't finished yet, but we're getting there.

A couple of nights back we also spotted a swallow tailed moth on our bathroom door. Glorious animal, and such vibrant colors! A real treat indeed.

Oscar is growing steadily, and we've had our first frantic worries about him eating odd materials. Somehow he managed to get a hold of my kneadatite and managed to eat some before my dad managed to pull the stuff out of his mouth. We called the chemical plant that makes the stuff, and they said it was a mild irritant to people, but shouldn't be deadly.

Luckily enough, Oscar managed to 'pass' the stuff he had eaten... along with some styro foam grains he also managed to consume somehow. He was feeling a bit under the weather, but is now back to his normal bad self again. He's getting HUGE ;)

The apparel shop is doing okay. Loads of interest, few purchases, but it has only just opened and we're changing things around as we go. Inquiries have been made for V-necks and more 'fashionable' cuts in general. We'll see how they'll respond to the requests. The shops look has been matched to fit the current website for the time being.

[Current Mood | tired]

Ugh..

I am tired, but it's hot here..
Can't sleep, so what do I end up doing?

yup, reading about the biosynthesis of flavonoids.

You'd think it's the last thing i'd read concidering my problems with organic chemistry..

But I think this is a good time to als update my journal with good news :)

* The CT-scan came back, and they didn't really find much.
Only something behind the chest, but this can also be simple scar tissue.
Seeing the PET-scan came back negative, the chances are high it is indeed only scar tissue.
May not be officially declared cancer free, but I think it's safe to assume I am right now.

Will get another appointment with the radiologist to determine how many/long radiation therapy will be for me, but i'm not worried about it.
As far as I heard you hardly notice it :)

* I found an "Oh Fortuna" stepfile for stepmania :o
It's a very nice Latin song I really like, the downside is that it's incredibly HARD to actually do on a mat...
will have to train hard, and perhaps one day......?

* The tiger squishable has become a natural detterant for my cat "tiger".
Apparantly she doesn't like it very much, but does help keeping her from going down the stairs to try and attack the canaries :p (provided it's strategicly positioned in front of the stairs)
At the very least the trick will work untill she realises it's just a plush that won't hurt her.

* I recieved a piece of a deer antler from my sister (she works at Burgers Zoo).
It's very small and not very special, but still find it very nice :)

* My sister discovered that we may have the genders mixed up of the chinchillas.
Always thought the dark grey one was male, and the lighter one was female.
So the previous owners told us as well, but now it appears (after closer inspection) that it's actually the other way around.
Woops!
Better swap the names around :x

To summarise I had an excellent time.

BBQ 17 August [Jul. 26th, 2008|12:22 pm]

For the Dutchies (who are interested)

My birthday was on the 16th of June, but didn't get celebrated yet due to the whole treatment plan i've been going through.
So BBQ got postphoned for a bit.

It was actually planned after the whole treatment was over and done with, but that would be in September and my sister was not happy with it.
So now it's planned on the 17th of August, hopefully it's a date possible for those who'd like to go.

It's going to be busy though, as it's with family,my sister's friends etc, as it's also to celebrate my sister's birthday.
It's generally a BBQ with nothing extra/special planned though.

Details will follow later, but would like to know whom has an interest in going and therefore is planning to go, so please leave a comment.
If your unsure, that's okay but state this in the comment, as it's more to have an idea on how many will pop up :)

Also, in case you are vegetarian or other special diet, please note this as well!
